Leh: As part of the ongoing ‘Month of Compassion’ initiative, the Animal Husbandry Department, in collaboration with Chamba Animal Care Centre, organised an Animal Health Awareness and Adoption Camp at Main Market Leh. The event aimed to raise public awareness about animal health, promote adoptions, and encourage a compassionate approach to animal care within the community.
Veterinary experts provided on-site services, addressed public queries, and educated attendees on animal welfare, vaccination programs, and responsible pet adoption. The initiative also facilitated adoption drives to help stray animals find caring homes.
Similar impactful camps were conducted in other parts of Ladakh. In Sakti village, a large number of participants—especially female farmers—engaged in the event. Attendees were provided essential information about animal diseases, artificial insemination techniques, and various government welfare schemes. Local grievances were noted, and both on-site and door-to-door treatments for livestock were provided.
Extending the campaign’s reach, staff from the Block Veterinary Office (BVO) Nubra conducted a series of activities in Bogdang village under the combined banners of the ‘Month of Compassion’ and the ‘Dharti Abha Abhiyan’ campaign. These efforts reflect the department’s commitment to promoting animal health and welfare across rural Ladakh.
