Kargil, Feb 12: Providing major relief to winter-stranded residents, the AN-32 Kargil Courier Service on Thursday successfully operated its first Jammu sortie of the season, restoring crucial air connectivity between Kargil and Jammu.
The sortie marked a significant step in ensuring transportation during harsh winter conditions when road connectivity remains severely affected. At Jammu Airport, the Indian Air Force pilots and crew were warmly received by the Liaison Officer, Assistant Liaison Officers, and officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), CISF, Air India and AIASL.
According to officials, the service operated two sorties during the day, carrying a total of 128 passengers in both directions. From Kargil to Jammu, 32 passengers were airlifted, including 18 in the first sortie and 14 in the second. On the return journey, 53 passengers travelled in the first sortie and 43 in the second from Jammu to Kargil.
Passengers availing the service expressed gratitude to the District Administration Kargil and the Indian Air Force for facilitating essential air travel during the winter months. Many passengers said the resumption of the Jammu sector has brought major relief, particularly for patients, students and those requiring urgent travel.
Officials stated that the courier service remains a lifeline for residents of Kargil during winter, ensuring accessibility and timely movement despite weather-related challenges.
