Kargil: In a solemn and powerful expression of faith, the Alam-e-Hazrat Abbas (AS) procession was held in Kargil with deep religious fervor under the banner of Jamiat Ul Ulama Isna Ashriya Kargil-Ladakh (JUIAK), as part of the ongoing Muharram commemorations.
Braving the intense summer heat, with temperatures soaring beyond 35°C, thousands of mourners from across the district gathered in Main Bazar, Kargil, to pay homage to Hazrat Abbas ibn Ali (AS) — the valiant flag-bearer of Karbala and loyal brother of Imam Hussain (AS).
The procession began in the early morning hours, winding its way through the key streets of Kargil town and concluding at the Isna Ashriya Campus. Mourners carried the sacred Alam (standard), symbolizing unwavering loyalty, strength, and sacrifice. Throughout the march, participants engaged in Matam (chest-beating), recited Nohas (elegies), and performed Matam Zanjeer, expressing their grief and spiritual solidarity with the martyrs of Karbala.
A central highlight of the day was the majlis (religious sermon) delivered by Sheikh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi, President of JUIAK. In his deeply emotive address, Sheikh Nazir reflected on the life and legacy of Hazrat Abbas (AS), describing him as the embodiment of loyalty, courage, and spiritual resilience. He urged the community—especially the youth—to draw inspiration from the values upheld by Hazrat Abbas (AS) and Imam Hussain (AS) in the face of tyranny and injustice.
Sheikh Nazir also offered special prayers for global peace and justice, remembering the oppressed in Parachinar (Pakistan), Palestine, and other conflict-ridden regions. He emphasized the timeless message of Karbala — one of standing up against oppression, serving humanity, and striving for justice.
The event was further marked by the spirit of service and community support. Local organizations, youth groups, and volunteers established Sabeels (refreshment stalls) along the route, providing water, traditional drinks like Darba, and snacks to participants — upholding the values of compassion and hospitality rooted in the legacy of Karbala.
The district administration, along with police and emergency personnel, ensured smooth coordination and security throughout the event. Medical assistance was also made available along the route to safeguard the well-being of the mourners.
