Kargil, November 3, 2025:
In a major push to promote Ladakh’s agri-based economy, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Jaffer Akhoon today flagged off the first consignment of 4.5 metric tons of dried Seabuckthorn from Kargil to Chandigarh.
The initiative aims to encourage local entrepreneurship, value addition, and commercial utilization of Ladakh’s unique Himalayan produce.
The event was attended by Chief Horticulture Officer Kargil, Ali Raza, Dr. Faizan from the School of Agricultural Science and Technology, Kargil, and CEO of Halman Apricots, Zakir Zaidi.
Halman Apricots, a local agro-based enterprise, will dispatch an additional six metric tons of dried Seabuckthorn following ongoing processing. The company has already processed about thirty-five metric tons of Seabuckthorn pulp this year.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Akhoon lauded the efforts of local entrepreneurs and urged the youth to explore agri-based ventures leveraging Kargil’s rich Himalayan resources like Seabuckthorn and apricot.
He said the district administration remains committed to supporting local producers and transforming Kargil into a hub for high-value Himalayan products.
