Kargil :
The Hon’ble Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon, inaugurated the newly macadamized link road at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kargil, fulfilling his earlier commitment to improving infrastructure at the key agricultural research centre.

The project aims to enhance accessibility and support KVK Kargil’s ongoing research and extension activities, thereby strengthening agricultural innovation and community outreach in the region.

On the occasion, Dr. Akhoon interacted with Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Kashmir, and his team. He reaffirmed that collaboration between government institutions, researchers, and farmers is essential to ensure food security and promote sustainable livelihoods suited to Ladakh’s unique agro-climatic conditions.

Discussions during the visit focused on improving research–extension–farmer linkages, adopting modern agri-technologies, and addressing challenges in livestock, horticulture, and crop diversification.

Prof. Ganai commended LAHDC Kargil’s proactive efforts and stressed closer cooperation between SKUAST-Kashmir, University of Ladakh, and local agencies to achieve long-term agricultural growth.

The event was attended by senior officials, including Prof. Azmat Alam Khan, Registrar SKUAST-K; Prof. Rehana Habib Kanth, Director Extension SKUAST-K; Dr. Faizan Ahmad, Dean, School of Agricultural Science & Technology (University of Ladakh); Ashiq Hussain Basharat, Chief Agriculture Officer; Dr. Gulzar Hussain, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer; Dr. Niyaz-ul-Hassanain, District Sheep Husbandry Officer; Ali Raza, Chief Horticulture Officer; Dr. Mehdi Akhoon, Head KVK Kargil-II; and Dr. Nasreen Fatima, Head KVK Kargil-I.

The event concluded with a collective pledge to strengthen institutional collaboration and ensure that agricultural research and technology effectively reach grassroots farmers — paving the way for holistic agricultural development in Ladakh.
