Ahead of Women’s Day, program held on ‘Gender Equality in Politics in Ladakh’

Leh: Ahead of the International Women’s Day on March 8, the Department of Social/Tribal Welfare, Leh in collaboration with the Child Development Project Office, Leh organised an inaugural function themed ‘Gender Equality in Politics in Ladakh: Progress & Challenges’ Wednesday at DC Conference Hall.

District Social Welfare Officer, Leh, Nilza Angmo said that the purpose of the meeting is to facilitate discussion on the current state of women’s political participation in Ladakh and to brainstorm strategies for promoting gender equality in politics.

Issues such as the role of digital literacy for women in politics, reasons of current status of low participation of women in politics, Challenges and long term and short time solutions were discussed at length.

The participants highlighted many issues such as the importance of gender sensitization and bringing gender equality in society, strengthening the overall processes that promote all-round development of women, women should be financially strong, stereotypes and judgments associated with women among other issues.
