SRINAGAR: A day after returning from Ladakh, the Northern Army Commander Lt General Upendra Dwivedi on Sunday visited frontline formations along the Line of Control in Kashmir Valley.
The General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Northern Command reviewed the operational preparedness at the frontline and the hinterland, and exhorted the troops to remain ready to meet any challenges from the adversaries in view of the upcoming Shri Amarnath Yatra.
The Army Commander also met Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at the Raj Bhavan in the evening and briefed him on the security situation in the union territory.
Lt Gen Dwivedi visited forward posts in Kupwara to review the operational preparedness and the prevailing security situation, a senior Army officer said.
“General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Northern Command Lt General Upendra Dwivedi visited frontline formations and units to review Operational preparedness,” an army spokesman said, adding that he was accompanied by Lt General Amardeep Singh Aujla, GOC 15 Corps.
During the visit to the sector, the Army Commander was briefed by the commanders on ground about the current operational situation, prevailing security dynamics and the preparedness of the formations in dealing with the same, the spokesman said.
He emphasised the need to remain vigilant and battle ready at all times, appreciated the preparedness and high morale of all soldiers. During his interaction with the soldiers, the Army Commander complimented them for their unwavering dedication to duty, selfless
devotion and high standard of professionalism.
“He complimented all ranks for their high standards of combat readiness to meet any challenges along Line of Control and in the hinterland,” the spokesman added.
The Army Commander’s visit has come amidst the increased infiltration attempts by the Pakistani terrorists who have stationed across the Line of Control and been trying to infiltrate into the Indian Territory to carry out their nefarious designs ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra.
The annual pilgrimage to the cave shrine, located at a height of 3,880 metres in the south Kashmir Himalayas, will begin on July 1 and end on August 31.
Sunday evening, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Northern Command Lt General Upendra Dwivedi called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at the Raj Bhavan here and discussed the security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir.
Lt Gen Dwivedi briefed the Lt Governor on the elaborate arrangements made by the security forces for the Amarnath Yatra, 2023, an official spokesperson said.
The spokesman said Sinha appreciated the role played by the army in restoring and preserving peace in the Union Territory.
Lt General Amardeep Singh Aujla, GOC 15 Corps and Lt Gen Sandeep Jain, GOC 16 Corps accompanied the GOC-in-C Northern Command.
