LEH: The Department of Agriculture, Leh in collaboration with Sikkim State Organic Certification Agency (SSOCA) organised Krishi Mela-cum- Exhibition at Sumoor, Nubra Saturday.
The exhibition was inaugurated by the chief guest Executive Councillor (Agriculture), Stanzin Chosphel in presence of Councillor Tiger, Rigzin Lundup; Councillor Panamik, Tsering Sangdup; Chairman, BDC Sumoor, Lobsang Gyatso; District Agriculture Officer, Leh Tashi Dolma, Director SSOCA, Sudhir Giri. Besides, PRI representatives including Sarpanches, Nambardars, and around 150 farmers participated in the Krishi Mela.
During the Krishi Mela, PGS-Certificates (Organic certification) were distributed to 20 organic villages by the dignitaries. Similarly, prizes were awarded to the displayers of best flowers and vegetables in the exhibition.
Chief guest EC Chosphel stressed the importance and significance of adopting organic farming and lauded the farmers who have already adopted organic farming practices and urged others to explore organic products and their benefits. DAO Leh, Tashi Dolma presented the note of thanks on the occasion.
