Leh, June 17: In a major boost to skill development and livelihood generation in Ladakh, the foundation stone for the new Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) building was laid at Saboo Doh, Leh, marking the beginning of a long-awaited project aimed at empowering rural youth and aspiring entrepreneurs.
The foundation stone was laid by Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD), Leh, Shri A.G. Zargar, in the presence of Director RSETI Shri Prem Bodh, State Director Shri Rakesh Gupta, AGM UTLBC Ms. Wangmo, and Lead District Manager (LDM), SBI, Shri Angchoo.
Officials from the Ladakh Rural Livelihood Mission (LRLM), including Mr. Wasim Akram of the District Mission Management Unit (DMMU), Leh, and State Project Manager Ms. Dolkar, also attended the ceremony.
Once completed, the new RSETI campus will feature modern training infrastructure along with separate hostel facilities for male and female trainees. Free boarding and lodging arrangements will be provided, ensuring that rural youth from remote areas can access skill development and entrepreneurship training without financial constraints.
The project is being implemented under the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India, with the State Bank of India (SBI) serving as the sponsoring bank. Construction and execution of the project are being undertaken by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).
Speaking on the occasion, dignitaries described the project as a landmark initiative that will strengthen entrepreneurship, self-employment and livelihood opportunities across Ladakh. They congratulated the residents of Leh on the commencement of a project that had remained pending for several years.
Officials expressed confidence that the institute will emerge as a key centre for skill development, helping youth acquire vocational skills, launch enterprises and become self-reliant.
The RSETI building is expected to be completed within the next two working seasons and is set to significantly enhance Ladakh’s skill development ecosystem while supporting the region’s growing focus on entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.
