New Delhi: Advocate Tashi Gyalson, former Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital to discuss key developmental and administrative priorities of the Union Territory of Ladakh.
At the outset, Gyalson extended New Year greetings to the Home Minister and expressed appreciation for the recent delegation of enhanced financial powers to the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. He described the move as a significant step towards improving administrative efficiency and streamlining governance in the Union Territory.
During the meeting, Gyalson underscored the importance of expediting the ongoing High-Powered Committee (HPC) dialogue process and requested early notification of the next round of meetings to carry forward deliberations on Ladakh’s core demands. He also urged the Home Minister to issue formal notifications and ensure the early operationalisation of the newly created districts of Zanskar, Nubra, Changthang, Sham and Drass, stating that the move would strengthen grassroots governance and administrative outreach.
Raising financial concerns, Gyalson sought the immediate release of the Special Development Package, State Sector funds and district Capex allocations for LAHDC Leh and Kargil. He said timely release of funds was critical to clear pending liabilities and ensure uninterrupted progress of ongoing development projects.
He also called for early resolution of issues related to the rationalisation of boundaries of the Changthang and Nubra wildlife sanctuaries, stressing the need to balance environmental conservation with the livelihoods and rights of local communities.
Highlighting the concerns of daily wage workers, Gyalson requested consideration of wage hikes and extension of Department of Personnel and Training benefits to those daily wagers who were earlier left out despite serving in various government departments.
On the education front, Gyalson urged the fast-track transfer of Krishi Vigyan Kendras from SKUAST-K to the University of Ladakh and sought early advertisement and filling of vacant posts in KVKs in accordance with Ladakh Reservation Rules.
He also raised the issue of preserving Ladakh’s cultural heritage and requested support for the repatriation of Ladakhi artefacts, art and archival material from Jammu and Kashmir to Ladakh.
The Union Home Minister listened patiently to the issues raised and assured that the concerns and proposals placed before him would receive due consideration and priority attention.
