Kargil, Dec 3, 2025: The District Social & Tribal Welfare Department, Kargil, in collaboration with multiple local organisations, today organised an International Day of Persons with Disabilities / Ability Mela at Munshi Habibullah Mission Higher Secondary School (MHMHSS), celebrating the abilities, resilience and creativity of specially-abled children.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho (JKAS), graced the event as Chief Guest, alongside CMO Kargil Dr. Liyaqat Ali Khan, District Social Welfare Officer Dr. Shahzad Sarwar, and representatives of Rewa-na-Kasco, BHC&RC Kargil and RaNTHAG.
The event featured colourful cultural presentations by specially-abled children and a powerful skit by RaNTHAG, highlighting inclusion and social sensitivity. In a major CSR gesture, the Truck Cooperatives Union Kargil donated ₹3 lakh to the Social Welfare Department to support disability-related welfare initiatives.
ADC Kacho praised the children’s performances and urged society to view them as “gifted, not disabled.” Citing global achievers including Stephen Hawking, he emphasised that disabilities cannot limit talent or potential. He also lauded RaNTHAG artists for their consistent work in spotlighting social issues.
In his welcome address, DSWO Dr. Sarwar Shahzad announced upcoming skill enhancement camps aimed at empowering specially-abled children through vocational training alongside assistive support.
Director MHMHSS, Gulzar Hussain, stressed the need for stronger advocacy, rehabilitation and opportunities to ensure dignified livelihoods for persons with disabilities.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from Arif Hussain of the Social Welfare Department, appreciating the collaborative spirit of parents, children, teachers and partner organisations.
