Leh, June 29: In a significant boost to the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector in Ladakh, Union Minister for MSME, Jitan Ram Manjhi on Monday reviewed the implementation of various Central government schemes and assured stakeholders that concerns related to credit access, subsidies and market linkages would be addressed.
Chairing a high-level review meeting at the DC Conference Hall in Leh, the Minister assessed the progress of MSME initiatives in the Union Territory and interacted with entrepreneurs, banking institutions, industry representatives and government officials.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Vinamra Mishra, Deputy Commissioner Leh Romil Singh Donk, Director Industries and Commerce Ladakh M. A. Bhatt, and representatives from banks, KVIC and MSME associations.
A detailed presentation on MSME schemes and their implementation in Ladakh was made during the meeting. Officials highlighted ongoing efforts to promote entrepreneurship, generate employment and strengthen local industries in the region.
Addressing the gathering, Vinamra Mishra noted that Manjhi is the first Union MSME Minister to visit Ladakh and emphasized the sector’s growing contribution to employment generation and India’s economic growth. He also outlined key flagship schemes aimed at supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses.
The meeting witnessed an interactive session where entrepreneurs and stakeholders raised issues related to financing, subsidies, scheme implementation and market access. The concerns were discussed in detail, with officials providing clarifications and assurances.
In his remarks, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi underscored the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to create employment opportunities and empower citizens through a vibrant MSME ecosystem. He observed that the MSME sector has emerged as a major contributor to GDP growth and job creation after agriculture.
Highlighting Ladakh’s unique ecological landscape, the Minister said MSMEs, with their relatively low carbon footprint, are well suited for sustainable development in environmentally sensitive regions. He also praised the UDYAM registration portal for simplifying business registration and called for greater awareness campaigns to ensure wider participation, particularly among economically weaker sections.
Reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to the development of the MSME sector in Ladakh, Manjhi assured participants that the issues raised during the meeting would be taken up for resolution, paving the way for stronger entrepreneurship and economic growth in the Union Territory.
