LEH, JUNE 16: Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Leh, Rigzin Spalgon JKAS, chaired a meeting at the VC Room of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office to review preparations and assess requirements for the smooth and peaceful observance of Muharram 2026 in the district.

The meeting focused on arrangements for the Muharram programme, which will be observed from the 1st to the 14th day of Muharram. Representatives from the community and concerned departments discussed various requirements to ensure the seamless conduct of religious events during the observance.

Among the key issues raised were the need for uninterrupted power supply, adequate medical facilities and the deployment of an ambulance at the Main Market for a week to provide emergency healthcare support to devotees.

The meeting also reviewed preparations for Ashura prayers, including arrangements for the Namaz venue, drinking water facilities, bathroom amenities and other essential services for participants. Security measures, including the deployment of police personnel and magistrates, were discussed to ensure law and order and facilitate effective crowd management.

In addition, the installation of public address systems and deployment of volunteers near Balkhang were deliberated upon to ensure smooth coordination during the religious gatherings.

Transportation arrangements also came under review, with discussions focusing on the operation of E-bus services for Shey, Thiksay and Phyang, parking management and daily transport coverage from the 1st to the 10th of Muharram.

ADDC Rigzin Spalgon directed all concerned departments to work in close coordination and ensure that all necessary arrangements are put in place well in advance to facilitate the peaceful and successful observance of Muharram across Leh district.
