Nyoma, May 05: In a decisive move to strengthen livestock development in the high-altitude Changthang region, Deputy Commissioner Changthang, Nitish Rajora (IAS), today chaired a high-level review meeting with Dr. Mohd Sadiq, Assistant Director, Sheep Husbandry Department (SHD), at his office in Nyoma.
During the meeting, Dr. Sadiq presented a comprehensive overview of ongoing initiatives and veterinary services being extended across the region. He highlighted efforts aimed at improving livestock healthcare, expanding field-level veterinary support, and ensuring better outreach in remote areas.
Taking serious note of the need for a focused development strategy, the Deputy Commissioner directed the department to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) centered on enhancing livestock health, productivity, and overall welfare in Changthang.
In a strong push towards boosting the region’s globally prized pashmina sector, Rajora emphasized targeted interventions, including:
Identification of suitable land for development
Strengthening pasture and fodder resources
Enhancing availability of feed supplements
He further instructed the Assistant Director to submit concrete proposals and applications at the earliest for timely execution.
The meeting signals the administration’s renewed focus on revitalizing the livestock economy and strengthening the pashmina value chain in Changthang, a region known for its unique agro-climatic conditions and premium wool production.
