Leh : In a significant administrative reshuffle, the President of India has appointed Vinai Kumar Saxena as the new Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, while Kavinder Gupta has been appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
The appointments come as part of a broader administrative reshuffle announced by the Centre. Saxena, who has been serving as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, will now take charge as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
Vinai Kumar Saxena assumed office as the Delhi LG in May 2022 and has since overseen several governance and administrative initiatives in the national capital. Before entering the role of LG, he served as the Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, where he was credited with promoting rural industries and strengthening the khadi sector across the country.
His appointment to Ladakh is being seen as significant as the Union Territory continues to witness major development initiatives, infrastructure expansion, and policy interventions following its reorganisation in 2019.
Meanwhile, Kavinder Gupta, who had taken oath as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh on July 18, 2025, has now been appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
A senior political leader from Jammu, Gupta has previously served as Deputy Chief Minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir and has also held the position of Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
Gupta’s move to Himachal Pradesh marks another key development in the Centre’s administrative appointments.
During his tenure in Ladakh, he focused on governance issues and developmental initiatives in the strategically important Himalayan Union Territory.
The appointments are expected to come into effect soon, with official notifications outlining the transition of responsibilities. Further administrative arrangements are likely to be announced as the new appointees prepare to assume their respective offices.
