Kargil, Feb 10: Executive Councillor for Tourism, LAHDC Kargil, Kacho Mohd Feroz on Tuesday attended the closing ceremony of a 15-day Ice Hockey Training-cum-Tournament for girls organised under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme in Kargil.
The programme was organised by the District Hub for Women, Mission Shakti, Department of Social and Tribal Welfare Kargil, in collaboration with the District Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) Kargil and the Ice Hockey Association Kargil, with the aim of promoting sports among girls and encouraging their overall development.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Imteeaz Kacho, District Programme Officer ICDS Kargil Nargis Banoo, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Kargil Abid Ali, along with officers, officials, parents and participants were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, EC Kacho Mohd Feroz appreciated the Department of Social and Tribal Welfare for organising sports camps for girls and said such initiatives under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme play a crucial role in empowering young girls through sports. He stressed the need for framing concrete policies, including exposure tours for talented sportspersons, to provide them with wider opportunities.
He highlighted the importance of providing proper sports equipment and safety gear to ensure safe participation and prevent injuries. The Executive Councillor emphasised that equal opportunities should be extended to all girls based on their talent and potential.
Referring to training in ice hockey and speed skating, Feroz called for joint efforts by LAHDC Kargil and the District Administration to strengthen winter sports infrastructure in the district. He assured full support for making future camps more advanced, better equipped and well organised.
He also thanked the Youth Services and Sports Department, ICDS Kargil, parents and participants, expressing hope that trained girls would represent Kargil at national and international levels.
Speaking on the occasion, ADC Kargil Imteeaz Kacho appreciated the initiative and said the District Administration, Youth Services and Sports Department and Ice Hockey Association Kargil would continue organising similar camps in the future. He praised the role of ICDS Kargil in successfully conducting the programme.
He said girl students possess immense talent and patience and noted that initiatives like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao are being effectively implemented through such programmes. He suggested organising longer training camps in collaboration with various departments and stressed the need to identify and develop additional ice hockey facilities across the district. He assured full administrative support for women-centric initiatives.
Earlier, DPO ICDS Kargil Nargis Banoo informed that girls received training in basic and intermediate levels of ice hockey during the 15-day camp. She congratulated the participants for their confidence, discipline and team spirit and assured continued support for similar programmes.
The event concluded with the distribution of prizes among top performers in Under-19, Under-14 and Under-12 categories, while certificates were distributed among all participants.
