Community Efforts Shine as UT Education Secretary Backs Model School for Igoo

Kharu, Feb 8: Giving a significant boost to education in rural Ladakh, Administrative Secretary of School and Higher Education Departments, UT Ladakh, Ms. Bhanu Prabha, IAS, on Sunday assured the establishment of a fully-equipped model school at Igoo while attending the concluding ceremony of a month-long winter tuition programme at Government High School, Igoo.
The winter tuition programme, organised by Shakya Junu Targyas Tsogspa, Igoo, aimed at supporting students academically during the harsh winter months. The event witnessed the presence of Deputy Chief Education Officer, Kharu, and the Headmaster of Government High School, Igoo, along with local residents and students.
Addressing the gathering, Ms. Bhanu Prabha lauded the efforts of Shakya Junu Tsogspa for successfully conducting the structured tuition programme, emphasising the importance of community participation in strengthening the education sector, particularly in remote and winter-bound regions of Ladakh.
During the function, Nambardar Igoo submitted a memorandum seeking the establishment of a model school in the village along with the provision of a school bus to facilitate better access to education for local students. Responding positively, the Administrative Secretary assured that a model school with complete infrastructure and teaching staff would be established in Igoo, drawing appreciation from the local community.
Later in the evening, a moral and spiritual education session was organised under the divine blessings of His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa Rinpoche. Venerable Lopon Samstan delivered teachings on moral education and Gyalras Laklan to students and villagers. The session, arranged by Young Drukpa, Igoo, in collaboration with Nambardar Igoo, highlighted the role of ethical and value-based education alongside formal learning.
The event concluded with appreciation for community initiatives aimed at ensuring continuous learning opportunities for students during the winter season, reflecting growing collaboration between the administration and local organisations in strengthening education in the region.
