Leh, January 15:
A delegation of the All Ladakh Hotel and Guest House Association (ALHGHA), led by its President Rigzin Lachic, today met the Hon’ble Chief Secretary of UT Ladakh, Mr. Ashish Kundra, and held detailed discussions on tourism-related challenges and infrastructure concerns in the region.
The delegation included Ka Wangchuk Lakrook, Ka Lobzang Lachumir, Stanzin Shesrap, Fadil Abduz, and other representatives of the hospitality sector. The meeting was described as positive and encouraging, with the Chief Secretary showing keen interest in the tourism sector, which was highlighted as the backbone of Ladakh’s economy.
During the interaction, the ALHGHA formally submitted a detailed representation supported by data and analysis. Key issues raised included the urgent need to improve air connectivity and enhance flight capacity ahead of the upcoming summer tourist season to address high airfares and accessibility challenges faced by both locals and tourists.
The delegation also expressed concerns over international travel advisories and stressed the need for coordinated efforts to reassure foreign tourists about safety and preparedness in Ladakh. Another major focus was on sewage management and STP-related issues in Leh, including the alignment of Ladakh Pollution Control Committee (LPCC) norms with Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) guidelines and strengthening government-owned STP and FSTP infrastructure.
Ease of doing business was also discussed, with ALHGHA urging the administration to operationalise the already approved registration portal for hotels and guest houses to simplify compliance and registration procedures. Additionally, the delegation flagged pressing infrastructure gaps, including the shortage of public conveniences, waste management challenges, and the growing issue of feral dogs.
Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra was receptive to the concerns raised and assured the delegation of administrative support. He also indicated that follow-up meetings will be held soon to discuss a concrete roadmap and implementation measures.
ALHGHA President Rigzin Lachic said the association remains hopeful that the administration will actively support tourism growth in Ladakh while prioritising the aspirations and concerns of local stakeholders. He added that members will be kept informed as discussions progress.
