Leh, January 14:
The Industries and Commerce Department, UT of Ladakh on Tuesday flagged off 10 beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma (PMV) Scheme along with their companions for participation in the National PM Vishwakarma Exhibition to be held at Dilli Haat, INA, New Delhi from January 17 to 31, 2026.
The flag-off ceremony was led by M. Ashraf Bhatt, JKAS, Director, Industries and Commerce, UT of Ladakh. The exhibition is being organised by the Ministry of MSME, Government of India, and is expected to witness the presence of national and international dignitaries, including the Prime Minister and foreign ambassadors.
The national-level event will provide market exposure and international outreach to traditional artisans from across the country, enabling them to showcase their products and connect with buyers, exporters and stakeholders.
Under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, 2023, traditional artisans and craftspeople engaged in 18 identified trades are provided support through skill upgradation, collateral-free loans up to ₹3 lakh at concessional interest, toolkit incentives, digital transaction support and market linkage promotion.
The Ladakh contingent will showcase the region’s rich artisan heritage, including doll and soft toy making, stone carving, wood craft, antique metal work, pashmina and carpet weaving, and handloom products.
The selected beneficiaries include Lobzang Wangmo, Tsering Chorol, Joyes Chosphel, Phunchok Paldan, Nawang Tsering and Jigmet Angmo, along with their companions.
The State Project Management Unit (SPMU) of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme played a key role in coordinating training, production support and market linkages for the artisans.
Commending the participants, Director M. Ashraf Bhatt said such national platforms open new livelihood opportunities for artisans and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to sustainable skill development and economic empowerment in Ladakh.
