Kargil, Dec 23:
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Shri Kavinder Gupta, on Monday reiterated that empowering farmers through clean energy solutions and reliable irrigation infrastructure remains a top priority of the Union Territory Administration, particularly in remote and climatically challenging regions like Kargil.
The Lt Governor made these remarks while interacting with a delegation led by Sheikh Nazir-Ul-Mehdi, President of Islamia School Kargil, and Advocate Reyaz Ahmad Khan, Nominated Councillor, LAHDC Kargil. The delegation apprised him of the irrigation difficulties faced by local horticulturists, especially apricot growers, due to erratic conventional power supply.
Highlighting the need for sustainable alternatives, the delegation proposed the installation of Solar Submersible Pumping Systems to ensure uninterrupted water availability for orchards. They noted that solar-based irrigation would not only strengthen horticulture infrastructure but also promote eco-friendly practices and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
Giving a patient hearing to the issues raised, Shri Kavinder Gupta reaffirmed the Administration’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development in Ladakh. He assured that the proposal would be examined on merit, keeping public interest and the long-term growth of the horticulture sector in mind.
