Leh, December 22, 2025:
In a significant push to border infrastructure and regional connectivity, long-pending bridge projects, including the strategically vital “Shatse Takna Zamba” bridge, have been sanctioned for the Nubra and Kargil districts of the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Former Member of Parliament (17th Lok Sabha) Jamyang Tsering Namgyal congratulated the people of Nubra and Kargil, particularly residents of the remote Siachen Belt areas from Burma–Charasa to Yarma, calling the sanction a historic milestone for the region.
The projects, approved at a total cost of ₹108.91 crore under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) and Setu Bandhan Scheme, are expected to significantly improve accessibility and quality of life in these high-altitude border areas, where residents have long faced arduous travel despite geographical proximity to administrative centres.
A key component of the approval is the construction of the 7×80-metre span, double-lane Shatse Takna Zamba bridge over the River Shayok in Nubra Valley, connecting Diskit with Burma. With a total length of 560 metres and an estimated cost of ₹93.62 crore, the bridge will provide all-weather connectivity, reduce travel hardships, and strengthen socio-economic linkages in the Siachen Belt.
Kargil district will also benefit from two additional bridge projects sanctioned under the same scheme—a 50-metre single-lane motorable bridge over the River Suru at Trespone (Kukshow) costing ₹8.52 crore, and a 45-metre single-lane motorable bridge from Haripora to Bau in Drass with an outlay of ₹6.77 crore.
Highlighting the collaborative effort behind the achievement, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal acknowledged the role of local BJP leadership, former LAHDC representatives, and residents of Charasa and Burma for their sustained advocacy. He also expressed gratitude to Lieutenant Governor Ladakh Shri Kavinder Gupta, Chief Secretary Dr. Pawan Kotwal, and concerned officers for facilitating the approvals by effectively conveying the project’s strategic importance.
“The sanction of these critical infrastructure projects, especially the Shatse Takna Zamba bridge over the Shayok, fulfills a long-standing aspiration of the people of Nubra and marks a new chapter in Ladakh’s connectivity and development,” the former MP said.
