Kargil, December 18, 2025:
The rZamba Trust on Thursday concluded its Residential Winter Alternative Learning Programme, Khangrtsa Yontan, with a closing ceremony held at Hotel Zojila Residency, Kargil. The programme aimed at equipping facilitators from across Kargil district to implement alternative, community-rooted learning practices during the harsh winter months.

A flagship initiative of rZamba Trust, Khangrtsa Yontan focuses on ensuring continuity of education through project-based, culturally responsive and community-driven approaches when regular schooling remains disrupted in winter.

The closing ceremony was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho (JKAS), as Chief Guest, and Chief Education Officer, Kargil, Sonam Wangchuk, as Guest of Honour.

The programme began with a traditional welcome, followed by an overview of the initiative by Nahida Wahid, Programme Coordinator, who underlined the importance of experiential and meaningful learning tailored to local culture and community realities.

Facilitators shared their experiences from the residential induction, highlighting exposure to innovative teaching practices such as Project-Based Learning, Social-Emotional Learning, wildlife and environmental education, hands-on science activities and community-based experiential learning. Many expressed confidence in adopting these methods in their winter learning spaces.

Addressing the gathering, ADC Imteeaz Kacho and CEO Sonam Wangchuk appreciated the programme’s design, content and overall quality. They lauded the preparedness and commitment of the facilitators and commended rZamba Trust for contributing to holistic child development beyond conventional classroom education.

The dignitaries also acknowledged the role of rZamba Trust’s core leadership team, including Saldon Shifa, Founder & CEO; Marziya Bano, Co-founder; Ghulam Murtaza and Hakima Banoo, Programme Leads; Rifat Amin, SEL Lead; and Nahida Wahid, Programme Coordinator.

The event concluded with closing remarks by Saldon Shifa, who urged facilitators to remain grounded in community realities and ensure that winter learning spaces remain joyful, inclusive and meaningful. The ceremony ended with a collective commitment to implement the Winter Alternative Learning Programme with integrity, creativity and a focus on children’s well-being.
