Kargil, December 13, 2025:
Under the directions of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Ladakh Legal Services Authority (LLSA), the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kargil, today organized the 4th National Lok Adalat, achieving significant resolution of pending cases through amicable settlement.
As part of the process, Pre-Lok Adalat sessions were held from December 2 to December 12, 2025, during which six benches were constituted at the District Headquarters, Kargil, and the Tehsil Courts of Sankoo, Zanskar and Drass. These sessions aimed at resolving a wide range of cases pending before courts across the district.
Cases taken up included criminal compoundable matters, civil disputes, cheque bounce cases under the NI Act, bank recovery cases, MACT cases, labour disputes, matrimonial issues, compoundable electricity and water bills, land acquisition and revenue cases, municipal matters, BSNL bills, traffic challans, and pre-litigation cases.
The first bench was presided over by Mr. Sheikh Gowher Hussain, Principal District & Sessions Judge and Chairman, DLSA Kargil. The second bench was led by Mr. Tsewang Phuntsog, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kargil, while the third bench was presided over by Mr. Chemit Yurgyal, Secretary, DLSA Kargil. Additional benches were also constituted at Kargil headquarters and the tehsil courts, with one bench presided over by Ld. Chairman Mr. Sadiq Ali Wazir.
Out of 475 cases referred to the National Lok Adalat, 392 cases were successfully disposed of. The proceedings resulted in a settlement amount of ₹51,65,203, while an additional ₹96,900 was realised as fine.
The National Lok Adalat once again proved to be an effective mechanism for speedy, cost-effective and amicable dispute resolution, providing timely justice to litigants across Kargil district.
