Kargil, Dec 11 — A delegation from Thasgam village in Sankoo, led by former Panch Asgar Ali, met the Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, on Thursday to highlight several long-standing grievances and developmental needs of the area.
The delegation raised concerns about the deteriorated drinking-water pipeline, which has led to persistent inconvenience for residents due to irregular water supply. They urged the administration to take up repairs on priority. They also reiterated their long-pending demand for the creation of a separate Panchayat Halqa for Thasgam, stating that it would strengthen grassroots governance and improve public service delivery.
To address recurring water scarcity during summer months, the delegates sought installation of submersible pumps at key locations. They also pressed for the construction of a sports ground to provide proper recreational and sporting facilities for local youth.
In the education sector, the delegation appealed for the upgradation of the village high school to a higher secondary school, noting that students currently face hardships travelling long distances to pursue senior secondary education. Another major issue highlighted was the removal of the ST line passing over residential houses, which residents say poses a serious safety hazard.
CEC Dr. Akhoon gave a patient hearing to all the concerns and acknowledged the importance of the issues raised. He assured the delegation that their demands would be examined and addressed at the earliest. Reaffirming LAHDC Kargil’s commitment to equitable and inclusive development, he appreciated the proactive efforts of the villagers in bringing their concerns to the council’s attention.
