Kargil, Dec 5, 2025: The 6th Senior Men’s State Handball Championship kicked off today at the Khree Sultan Choo Sports Stadium, bringing together top teams from across Ladakh. Four teams each from Kargil and Leh districts are vying for supremacy in the much-anticipated tournament.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Former Executive Councillor and Councillor Choskore Nasir Hussain Munshi as Chief Guest. Councillor Baroo Advocate Khadim Hussain attended as Guest of Honour, and Nominated Councillor Advocate Riyaz Ahmad Khan joined as Special Guest. Prominent sports officials including Shamim Kacho (VP, Ladakh Archery Association), Haji Mohd Ali Rangyoul (President, AKTTA), Anayat Ali (Gen. Secretary, Ladakh Taekwondo Association), Stanzin Phalgais (Joint Secretary, Ladakh Handball Association), Baqir Ali (Gen. Secretary, Ladakh Handball Association), and Mohd Yaseen (President, Kargil Handball Association) were also present.
The championship was formally inaugurated when the Chief Guest passed the ball, signaling the start of intense competition. In his address, Nasir Hussain Munshi praised the Ladakh and Kargil Handball Associations for promoting sports among youth, assuring his support in addressing players’ and associations’ concerns at higher levels.
Advocate Khadim Hussain thanked the Handball Association for hosting the event in Kargil and pledged support for future initiatives, while Advocate Riyaz Ahmad Khan highlighted challenges faced by sports bodies due to limited government resources and encouraged associations to seek assistance proactively. He commended the Handball Association for keeping youth engaged in sports and steering them away from social evils.
Mohd Yaseen, President of the Kargil Handball Association, recounted the association’s achievements, noting its consistent organization of state championships for men and women over the past five years, and the regular participation of local teams in national events.
The tournament promises an exciting display of skill, teamwork, and competitive spirit, reinforcing Kargil’s growing reputation as a hub for sports development in Ladakh.
