Leh, Dec 5, 2025: The Social & Tribal Welfare Department, UT Ladakh, in collaboration with the State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA) and Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), organized a programme to commemorate Adoption Awareness Month – November 2025 at the District Panchayat Resource Center, Agling Road, Leh.
The event focused on the theme “Non-Institutional Rehabilitation of Children with Special Needs”, emphasizing the crucial role of a loving family environment for all children, particularly those requiring special care.
The programme was inaugurated by Kunzes Angmo (JKAS), Director of Social & Tribal Welfare Department, who stressed the collective responsibility of stakeholders in ensuring children’s welfare and the irreplaceable role of a family in holistic child development.
Awareness efforts included the screening of a short film on rehabilitation and adoption of children with special needs, sensitizing the audience to the adoption process and the profound impact of adopting these children.
A detailed panel discussion on Special Needs Adoption was moderated by Ms. Tashi Dolma, Member of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Leh, featuring experts from diverse fields. Panelists included Chunit Dolma (Health Department), Tsewang Dorjey (former PAGIR President), Tsering Angchuk (CWC Member), Fariya Rafiq (Protection Officer), and Sonam Chosdon (SARA Program Manager), who highlighted early intervention, legal procedures, and the significance of promoting adoption of children with special needs.
The event also featured an experience-sharing session by Ms. Deachen Angmo, inspiring attendees with her personal journey of adoption. The programme concluded with a cultural performance by children from the Child Care Institution of the Lions Club Hostel, followed by a formal vote of thanks.
