Ladakh Sets a New Benchmark in PM-JAY

Ladakh’s zero-pendency milestone under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (PM-JAY) has emerged as a powerful example of efficient governance in one of India’s most difficult terrains. Clearing every pending insurance claim within the designated timeframe is a rare achievement for a region defined by harsh weather, dispersed settlements and limited health infrastructure.

This success reflects strong coordination between hospitals, district teams, the UT Health Authority and digital processing systems — all working under the proactive direction of Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta. His focus on transparency, timely reviews and a no-pendency culture ensured that processes moved swiftly and without bureaucratic bottlenecks. Earlier saturation of Golden Cards also played a key role, enabling smoother claim handling during the Zero Pendency Month.

For families in remote areas, PM-JAY’s cashless coverage of ₹5 lakh is a critical safety net. The timely clearance of claims not only eased financial burdens but also strengthened trust in the health system.

While Ladakh still faces infrastructure challenges and the need for stronger fraud-prevention mechanisms, its performance offers a national lesson: with clarity of vision and citizen-first governance, even the most remote regions can set new standards in public service delivery.
