Leh: Nubra Valley, with its breathtaking landscapes, unique culture, and natural heritage, has the potential to become one of India’s premier tourist destinations, said Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, during the first day of his three-day visit to the Nubra sub-division.
Addressing a public durbar at the SDM Conference Hall in Disket, LG Kavinder highlighted the UT Administration’s focus on holistic development, improved infrastructure, and enhanced tourism facilities to make Nubra a model for sustainable growth.
The Lt Governor emphasized initiatives such as the upcoming Phyang–Hunder Transmission Line for uninterrupted power supply, upgrading of roads for better connectivity, opening new tourist circuits, and the operationalization of Thoise Civil Airport to link the valley directly with the rest of the country.
Kavinder also acknowledged the challenges posed by Ladakh’s short working season due to extreme winters and snowfall but assured residents that reliable road connectivity, 4G services, healthcare, and educational facilities would be strengthened.
During his visit, the Lt Governor toured Disket Monastery, the 106-ft Maitreya Buddha statue, and the Hunder Sand Dunes, even enjoying a ride on the iconic double-humped Bactrian camel. He listened closely to the concerns of locals, including monks and camel owners, promising to address genuine issues on priority.
Councillors and officials briefed the LG on local needs, ranging from power and telecommunication improvements to multipurpose halls, reflecting the UT Administration’s commitment to inclusive development.
“The government is determined to ensure that Nubra not only emerges as a leading tourist hub but also as a shining example of balanced, sustainable growth benefiting the local community,” the Lt Governor said.
With a combination of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and focused development, Nubra is set to become a must-visit destination for travelers across India and the world.
