In Ladakh, in a vibrant celebration of art and imagination, a Painting Competition was organised at Vijayak Headquarters, Kargil, as a prelude to the 15th Raising Day of Project Vijayak. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 120 contestants, reflecting the strong bond between the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and the people of Ladakh.

The competition was inaugurated by Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, as the Chief Guest. Spalzes Angmo, Principal District & Session Judge Kargil, graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. Also present were Brigadier Ashish Joshi, Commander 121 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Rahul Oberoi, Chief Engineer Project Vijayak, officers from the Army and civil administration, and citizens from across Kargil.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Akhoon lauded BRO’s pivotal contribution to Ladakh’s development. He highlighted that Project Vijayak has significantly accelerated connectivity by linking border areas with well-developed roads, bridges, and tunnels. He appreciated the inspiring quotes displayed along the highways by BRO and suggested including Urdu translations to further connect with local communities. Dr. Akhoon expressed deep respect for the Indian Army and BRO, calling them “as local as we are,” and thanked BRO projects—Vijayak, Yokjak, Himank, and Beacon—for their tireless work across Ladakh.

Participants were divided into two groups—children up to 12 years and those above 12 years. They painted on themes “Ladakh Culture and Heritage” and “Contribution of BRO to Ladakh.” Entries beautifully depicted Ladakhi traditions and BRO’s role in transforming the region’s infrastructure. Contestants included students from schools and colleges, NGOs, children from a local orphanage, and families of GREF and Army personnel.

The results will be declared on 21 September 2025 during the Raising Day celebrations. Winning artworks will receive cash prizes and will be showcased prominently as road signboards along the NH-1 Zojila–Kargil–Leh axis, featuring the artists’ names for public recognition.

The competition served as a creative platform uniting students, officials, service personnel, and citizens, reaffirming Project Vijayak’s dual legacy—developing strategic infrastructure and fostering cultural expression in Ladakh.
