Leh: From boosting Ladakh’s winter tourism to ensuring all-weather connectivity in some of the world’s toughest terrains, Lieutenant Governor Shri Kavinder Gupta has laid out an ambitious roadmap for the Union Territory’s future.

Chairing a comprehensive review meeting with the Tourism and Culture Department at the LG Secretariat in Leh, the LG called for making Ladakh a year-round destination by expanding the reach of the Ladakh Homestay Policy 2023, promoting immersive cultural experiences, and introducing activities such as winter sports to attract visitors during the off-season.

He underlined the importance of protecting Ladakh’s rich heritage, instructing the installation of CCTV cameras at prominent monasteries, digitisation of ancient manuscripts, and ensuring that scripts for light-and-sound shows are vetted by historians to maintain authenticity.

Administrative Secretary Sanjit Rodrigues briefed him on the progress of several tourism and cultural initiatives, including the STP Incentive Scheme 2024, museum preservation efforts, and promotion of Ladakhi arts and crafts, alongside updates on housing projects under PMAY Urban 2.0 and AMRUT 2.0.

In a subsequent review with the Public Works and Mechanical Engineering Departments, Administrative Secretary Michael D’Souza presented updates on nine tunnel projects, road upgrades under PMGSY and CRIF, bridge construction, and snow clearance operations.

The LG stressed the need for swift action on legacy waste disposal in Kargil town, quality execution of sewage treatment plants despite budgetary challenges, and greater outreach for housing schemes to include newly formed municipal wards in Leh.

He also highlighted the importance of ensuring year-round mobility for security forces through robust road infrastructure, completing employee registration on the Karmayogi Bharat portal, and filling vacant government posts without delay.

By integrating tourism development, cultural preservation, infrastructure upgrades, and strategic mobility, the LG’s vision seeks to position Ladakh as both a resilient frontier and a globally attractive destination, capable of drawing visitors in every season while safeguarding its unique identity.
