Leh: In a major step towards sustainable agriculture and water conservation, the Union Territory of Ladakh has received the first tranche of ₹3.87 crore under the Watershed Development Component of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana 2.0 (WDC-PMKSY 2.0) for the financial year 2025-26.
The Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department has sanctioned the release of the funds in favour of the Director, Rural Development & PR, Ladakh.
The amount will be further disbursed to the Project Managers (Assistant Commissioners Development) of Leh and Kargil to implement approved watershed development projects in both districts.
This funding aims to boost Ladakh’s efforts in managing natural resources efficiently, improving soil and water conservation, and enhancing agricultural productivity through scientific watershed management practices.
The administration has emphasized that the funds must be utilized strictly as per the guidelines of the scheme and the General Financial Rules (GFR) 2017.
Implementing agencies are required to maintain transparent accounts, ensure PFMS-based transfers, and submit utilization certificates along with audited reports upon completion.
The initiative is seen as a significant stride in building climate resilience in the region’s fragile ecosystems, while also supporting the livelihoods of rural communities through improved irrigation and land management.
The order was issued by Shashanka Ala, IAS, Administrative Secretary of the Rural Development and PR Department, UT Ladakh.
