Hanle: On the second day of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyaan, awareness and outreach activities were successfully conducted on Friday in India’s first village on the Indo-China border I.e Demjok Hanle and Korzok in the Changthang region of Ladakh.

At Hanle, the campaign was led by Dr. Phunstog Tundup, Head of KVK Nyoma, who addressed a gathering of 50 participants comprising farmers and staff.

He emphasized the significance of the nationwide initiative and encouraged villagers to take maximum advantage of the government schemes being presented.

Dr. Tundup also urged them to actively participate in all departmental training programs to enhance agricultural and livestock practices in the region.

Ishey Spalzang, Councillor, was present to support the campaign and urged villagers to openly share their concerns with the officials and scientists present.

Experts from multiple departments participated in the campaign. Dr. Sonam Dawa from the Horticulture Department highlighted various beneficial schemes such as vermicomposting, construction of Isod Bangs, and 50% subsidies on power tillers, tubular greenhouses, and polythene sheets.

Hashim from the Agriculture Department discussed compost pit grants and farmer-centric schemes including PM-Kisan.

Mohammad Aziz from the Sheep Husbandry Department addressed livestock-related issues, including common diseases and their management, which are of high importance in Hanle’s livestock-dominated economy.

An interactive session allowed farmers to share their specific needs and receive expert guidance. Shri Ishey Spalzang encouraged unity among villagers for holistic rural development and praised the efforts of all departments involved.

Later in the afternoon at Korzok, another awareness cum interactive session was conducted, which engaged 41 participants. Dr. Tashi Dolker, KVK Scientist, stressed the importance of sustainable agriculture and long-term productivity.

Rinchen Angmo, Agriculture Extension Officer, encouraged villagers to remain in regular contact with their respective departments and avail the full range of government schemes.

Dr. Ashiaq from the Animal Husbandry Department focused on the need for regular livestock vaccination, geo-tagging of animals, and early disease control measures. Skarma Gurmet from the Sheep Husbandry Department provided insights into specific schemes for sheep rearing and livestock welfare.

The session was also attended by Jigmet Rabgyas, Nambardar of Korzok, who appreciated the campaign and motivated villagers to actively engage for the benefit of their community.

The day’s efforts reflected strong interdepartmental collaboration and a shared commitment to rural empowerment through knowledge dissemination and responsive governance.
