Kargil: The Department of Education, GDC Kargil, organized an educational field visit for 17 students of the 4th semester (Major and Minor), accompanied by two faculty members — Kaniz Fatima (Head, Department of Education) and Dr. Barkat Hussain Para (Assistant Professor, Education).

The first stop of the visit was Munshi Habibullah Secondary School, a reputed inclusive institution in Kargil.

The purpose of the visit was to provide students hands-on exposure to inclusive education practices and an understanding of the educational needs of children with diverse abilities.

The students were warmly welcomed by REWA Society Coordinator Sajad Hussain Bhat.

During the visit, detailed briefings were provided by professionals including Farzana (Physiotherapist), Amina (Physiotherapist), Archo Fatima (Special Educator), Bilquis Fatima (Physiotherapist), and Tahira Banoo (Special Educator).

They explained the characteristics, needs, and teaching strategies for children with conditions such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Visual Impairment, and other developmental challenges.

The sessions also included information on individualized curriculum planning and assistive teaching methods to meet the specific needs of each child.

In the second half of the day, the group visited the Drug De-Addiction Centre at District Hospital Kargil.

This part of the visit focused on raising awareness about mental health issues and substance abuse, key areas of concern in contemporary society.

Syed Hassan Shah (Psychologist) delivered a brief but impactful session on basic counselling practices related to mental health and early intervention in drug addiction.

He emphasized the importance of mental well-being and the role of counselling in prevention and recovery.

Further, Mohammad and Shama Zahra (both Project Coordinators) engaged the students in an interactive session covering the causes, consequences, and preventive strategies for drug addiction.

They discussed community-based support systems, the role of youth in awareness campaigns, and institutional responses to addiction.

The educational visit successfully bridged the gap between theoretical understanding and practical exposure for students.

They gained first-hand insight into inclusive educational settings and mental health care practices.

The sessions by professionals enriched their knowledge and instilled in them a deeper sense of empathy and awareness toward special needs education and drug de-addiction support systems.
