Delegation of BJP State Mahila Morcha calls on LG Mishra

Leh: A delegation from BJP State Mahila Morcha, led by its President, Rinchen Dolkar, called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) to express their heartfelt appreciation for passing the resolution for granting 33 percent reservation for women by the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh for Hill Council elections during the recent General Council Meeting.

Rinchen Dolkar conveyed sincere gratitude to the LG for his dedicated efforts in securing the reservation for women and urged its implementation in the upcoming LAHDC Leh elections. She emphasised that this initiative would significantly enhance women’s participation in local governance and the decision-making process.

In addition to expressing their appreciation, the delegates also highlighted the pressing need for hostel facilities for working women and girl students hailing from remote areas. They pointed out the challenges faced by them due to the lack of accommodation facilities in Leh and requested the LG’s intervention in addressing this issue.

Responding to the delegation, LG acknowledged that the achievement of women’s reservation in LAHDC was made possible by the able leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He further expressed confidence in its successful implementation in the upcoming elections once the LAHDC Act is amended in the Parliament.

Regarding the request for hostel facilities, LG stated that the LAHDC plays a vital role in such provisions and advised the delegation to take up the matter with the Hill Council for necessary action.

Chief Secretary, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, IAS; President BJP State Mahila Morcha, Rinchen Dolkar and Executive members of BJP State Mahila Morcha were present during the meeting.

Later in the day, a delegation of women from various organisations across Ladakh, led by Nominated Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Dr. Yangchan Dolma, called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), to express their deep appreciation for the recent passing of resolution by LAHDC Leh during the General Council Meeting for 33 percent reservation for women in the LAHDC Leh elections.

Dr. Yangchan Dolma conveyed sincere gratitude to the LG and Hill Council Leh for their dedicated efforts in securing the reservation and highlighted the importance of its implementation in the upcoming LAHDC elections.

She emphasised that the reservation for women would play a crucial role in promoting gender inclusivity and empowering women in governance across the region.

Addressing the gathering, LG acknowledged that this milestone was achieved under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

He further expressed optimism that the reservation would be successfully implemented in the forthcoming LAHDC elections, ensuring greater representation and participation of women in the decision-making process.

Chief Secretary, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, IAS; Nominated Councillor Dr. Yangchan Dolma and women representatives from various organisations were present during the meeting.
