KARGIL: Plantation Day program was organized at Pioneer Public School under the theme “Roots of Tomorrow”, coinciding with the celebration of Earth Day on Tuesday.
The event was graced by Member of Parliament Ladakh, Haji Hanifa, ISK President Sheikh Nazir, Town Councillor Haji Mohammad Abass, Vice President of Anjuman Ahle Sunnat Wal Saleem Ahmad Wani, along with school staff and students.
The program began with the National Anthem, followed by a beautiful melodious tarana presented by the students.
A staff member welcomed the guests and appreciated ISK President Sheikh Nazir’s efforts towards environmental protection through this plantation drive, especially meaningful on Earth Day. The guests were warmly felicitated with traditional khataqs.
Saleem Wani, Vice President of Ahle Sunnat, praised the plantation initiative and thanked everyone for actively taking part in this significant Earth Day event.
Councillor Town, Haji Mohammad Abass acknowledged the importance of the one lakh plantation drive led by ISK President, especially in light of recent environmental challenges in the district.
He assured his full support for the cause and pledged to address the issues faced by school. He expressed gratitude to everyone for coming together to meaningfully observe Earth Day.
MP Ladakh, Haji Hanifa appreciated the school management and congratulated Sheikh Nazir for his visionary idea of protecting nature.
He stressed that saving the environment is essential, especially during these times of global warming, and that celebrating Earth Day with such an initiative is truly commendable.
He encouraged both educated people and the public to take part in this mission and assured his complete support, stating that for every step taken, they are ready to take ten more.
In his address, ISK President Sheikh Nazir thanked the school management, staff, and students for successfully organizing this Earth Day Plantation Drive.
He motivated students, saying that every tree they plant is a valuable contribution to the one lakh plantation mission.
He emphasized the importance of trees for oxygen and life and explained how even ancient traditions, like burying a newborn’s hair on the seventh day, reflect our connection with nature.
He introduced the ‘Al Himalaya Green Mission’, and explained the word AL HIMA word derived from a Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him ) where the Prophet emphasized protecting reserved areas of land and natural resources for the welfare of communities.
He also spoke about how millions of sparrows no longer visit the region due to environmental damage. He urged teachers to raise awareness among children and asked everyone to take this Earth Day as an opportunity to strengthen their commitment to saving the planet.
At the end of the program, the school management presented mementos to the guests. Lastly, vote of thanks was delivered by Murtaza Khalili, a staff member of the school. He shared the institution’s history, established in 1995 by Anjuman Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat as a contribution to society.
He spoke of the many successful students from the school who is serving in the society right now and requested to support to improve the school’s present standing.
He appreciated the plantation drive started by Sheikh Nazir and concluded his speech with a poetic note and thanked all the guests, staffs and students for their collective efforts to save the planet.
The program ended with a collective pledge to protect the environment and work together for a greener, cleaner tomorrow — a message especially meaningful on Earth Day.
