Leh: With an objective to provide adequate water to farmers for irrigation, the administration of Ladakh has successfully installed several solar lift pumps across the Union Territory.
After the success of the trial of solar pump last year, the administration of Union Territory decided to install more water pumps. “Total 10 solar pumps were installed in district Leh while similar pumps being installed in Kargil as well,” an official told Indus Dispatch.

He informed that the installation of solar pumps at Akchamal and Shiliktsey was completed.
People expressed their gratitude to Hill Development Council and Flood & Irrigation department after successful installation of Solar Water Lifting System.

Solar pumps present a clean, simple and energy-efficient alternative to traditional electric and fuel-driven pump sets.
They are part of an environmentally friendly approach in agriculture and can be used to exploit every region, whether its developed or poor.
Due to their immense potential for productive use and agricultural productivity, solar water pumps are now powering more and more agriculture projects.
A solar-powered water pump is a concept that is environmentally-friendly. More importantly, it is a concept that gets rid of any power grids or fossil fuels used to pump water out of the ground.
It may be recalled, that Commissioner Secretary, Public Health Engineering/Irrigation & Flood Control, Ajeet Kumar Sahu asked the concerned engineers to ensure the completion of allied and remaining works so that the scheme is made operational on time.
Besides, the department is also doing a pilot on mobile pumps to lift the river water for irrigation purposes which would be the first of its kind and provide an immediate irrigation facility without the need of creating much civil infrastructure.
