Leh: Chairman/CEC, Adv. Tashi Gyalson on behalf of LAHDC Leh and the people of Ladakh expressed profound sorrow and grief on the passing away thus, attaining Mahaparinirvana of His Eminence Galdan Trizur, Rizong Sras-Trul Jetsun Thupstan Nyima Lungtok Stanzin Norbu Rinpoche last night (08th December 2022) at around 09:15 PM (IST) at Drepung Loseling Lukhil Khamtsen in Mungod, Karnataka.

In his condolence message, the CEC has said that the passing of His Eminence Galdan Trizur Rinpoche is a great loss to the Buddhist community in particular and the entire Ladakh at large. The CEC has further said that Late Rinpoche made immense contributions to Ladakh in various capacities and blessed the people on various occasions. Late Rinpoche was a true son of Ladakhi soil and became the first and only Ladakhi to become the Galdan Tripa (102nd) which is the spiritual head of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism, and the people of Ladakh and his well-wishers all over the world will always remember late Rinpoche as a greatly admired spiritual leader for his noble initiatives and persistent endeavor towards preservation and promotion of Buddhist studies, CEC added.

Born into the Royal House of Matho, a cadet branch of the Royal Family of Ladakh in the early 1930s, H.E late Galdan Trizur Rizong Rinpoche was recognized and enthroned as a child as the reincarnation of the founder of the illustrious Rizong Hermitage. He was the nephew of the late 19th Kushok Bakula Rinpoche. In the mid-1940s Rinpoche joined Drepung Loseling Monastery in Lhasa for his higher training.

He was appointed by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama as the Abbot both of Gyumed Tantric Monastery and of Drepung Loseling Monastery. He has also been the Abbot of Samstanling Monastery at Sumur village in the Nubra region. Late Rinpoche was later enthroned the 102nd Galdan Tripa, the spiritual head of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism and the first Ladakhi to get enthroned at such supreme spiritual seats. Through his achievements in practice and scholarship, he represents the pinnacle of the Sutra and Tantra traditions.

We, at the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh offer our deepest condolences and pray for a swift incarnation of Rinpoche once again in Ladakh. We will always remember him for his positive outlook on life and honor him as an exceptional scholar and spiritual master of the highest eminence.Chairman/CEC, Adv.
