Leh: A meeting of the UT Level Monitoring & Approval Committee was held to discuss and approve the Annual Action Plan 2022-23 under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojna (PMMSY).
Administrative Secretary Fisheries UT Ladakh Ravinder Kumar chaired the meeting.
The Annual Action Plan of Rs. 11.35 crores for the financial year 2022-23 was approved in the meeting. It comprises Rs. 6.79 crores as a Central Government share and Rs. 4.21 crores as beneficiary contribution with a 60:40 ratio.
Under this scheme, the construction of trout raceways (rZings); establishment of trout hatcheries, Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) units for cold water fisheries; backyard ornamental freshwater fish rearing units; construction of fish kiosks including kiosks of aquarium and ornamental fisheries were approved in the meeting.

Secretary Ravinder Kumar stressed the branding of Ladakh trout as organic fish and its marketing and supply in and outside Ladakh.
A comprehensive project in this direction was approved in the meeting.
Earlier, a detailed power-point presentation on component-wise activities proposed under the scheme was given by Assistant Director Fisheries Leh Mohd Amin.
Director ASH& Fisheries Dr. Mohammad Raza, Dy Secretary RDD Manoj Kumar, Asstt. General Manager UTLBC Ladakh Tsering Morup, Assistant Director Fisheries Mohd Amin, and concerned officers attended the meeting.

The aim and objective of the PMMSY is to harness the fisheries’ potential in a sustainable, responsible, inclusive and equitable manner and intends to address critical gaps in fish production and productivity, quality, technology, post-harvest infrastructure and management, modernisation, and strengthening of the value chain, traceability, establishing a robust fisheries management framework and fishers’ welfare.
