Leh: As a part of the ongoing Jal Jeevan Maah, District Water and Sanitation Mission, Leh and Public Health Engineering Department in collaboration with the Quality Council of India (QCI) is organising a five-day Capacity Building Workshop for Lab officials from October 4th-8th.
Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Shrikant Suse presided over the inaugural ceremony at DC Conference Hall, Leh today.
The five-day training on Water Testing- Theoretical and Practical Demonstration aims to improve the competency level of laboratory staff and improve the precision in lab testing.
Addressing the gathering, DC Leh expressed gratitude to the experts from the Quality Council of India for being a part of the intensive training program. Apart from supplying regular and sufficient water, DC Leh added that water quality is also an important aspect of Jal Jeevan Mission. He appreciated the improved status of Ladakh under the JJM Functionality Assessment Report 2022 and lauded the collaborative effort of all stakeholders.

He expressed hope that the NABL accreditation of water testing laboratories of the district would be completed at the earliest. He also urged the lab assistant and officials to take maximum benefit of the training programme by raising their doubts and queries.
In the beginning, Director, QCI, Alok Jain briefed about the role played by the Quality Council of India in accreditation and training and capacity building. Appreciating the initiative of PHED Ladakh for organising such a handholding training programme, Alok Jain assured to provide all the necessary support.
The inaugural ceremony concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by the Superintending Engineer, PHE Leh, Sonam Angchuk.
Chief Chemist, PHED Ladakh, Urgain Nurboo; Executive Engineer, PHE Leh, Tsering Angchuk; experts from QCI; representatives from PMU, and Laboratory Assistants/staff along with concerned departmental officials were present during the inaugural session.
Director, QCI, Alok Jain, during the management system session, spoke about the Bureau of Indian Standards for water quality parameters, NABL and the International Framework of Accreditation.
Later in the technical session, experts from QCI conducted a theoretical session on physical parameters, including odour, pH, taste and colour of water quality followed by the evaluation and question and answer session.
