30th Ladakhi Kisan Jawan Vigyan Mela: Gyalson lauds  contribution of DIHAR-DRDO in Ladakh’s agri/horti sector

Leh: Chairman/CEC Tashi Gyalson attended the closing ceremony of the 2-day celebration of the 30th Ladakhi Kisan Jawan Vigyan Mela at DIHAR-DRDO Leh as the chief guest. Secretary, of Agriculture/Horticulture, Ravinder Kumar was present as the guest of honor.
CEC Gyalson, in his address, appreciated the immense contribution of DIHAR-DRDO in the development of the Agriculture and the Horticulture sector of Ladakh. ‘DIHAR played an important handholding role which Ladakh needed the most while charting its developmental path’, said CEC and also added that DIHAR and its scientists nurtured Ladakh through its contributions akin to the role played by the Army and ITBP in the development of Ladakh.
He added that the research and innovative technologies of DIHAR have truly benefitted the farmers of Ladakh along with the entrepreneurs and the local scientists providing them all a great learning experience and platform for exchanging views, ideas and enabling them to adopt new technologies.
CEC Gyalson added that Ladakh possesses huge potential in the agri/horti sector and with the availability of funds and resources, Ladakh has the opportunity to be a model Union Territory. Highlighting the potential of Ladakh, he shared that 50 metric tonnes of Apricot from Ladakh were exported in this season.
Expressing happiness over the young entrepreneurs engaging in the Agri/Horti sector, CEC Gyalson added that their investment will be relevant, in the changing times of global warming and climate change, and make Ladakh self-reliant thus making it sustainable.
Further, he added that UT Administration and Hill Council are committed to providing the necessary support for development in this sector as there is no dearth of funds and resources in this new UT of Ladakh.
Secretary Ravinder Kumar and Additional Director, DIHAR-DRDO, Dr Narendra Patel also spoke on the occasion.
They highlighted the achievements, transforming the agriculture and horticulture sector in Ladakh via subsidized schemes, enhanced budget along with research and development aligned to the climatology and topography of Ladakh.
The dignitaries felicitated the winners of different competitions. Similarly, entrepreneurs, progressive farmers, and concerned departments, exhibiting their products in the stalls were also felicitated.
