10th edition of Ladakh Zanskar Festival celebrated with grandeur

Zanskar, September 20, 2025: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Shri Kavinder Gupta inaugurated the 10th edition of Ladakh Zanskar Festival in the presence of Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon, and Member of Parliament (MP) Ladakh, Hanifa Jaan and other UT and District officers.

Amit Sadh, famous Bollywood actor, who is also the brand ambassador of Zanskar Festival 2025 was alao present on the occasion.

While addressing the gathering, CEC Dr. Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon highlighted the importance of the festival in attracting visitors from across the globe, thereby boosting the local economy and strengthening Kargil’s cultural identity.

Speaking on the spiritual significance of recent events, the CEC recalled the visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, describing it as a historic and profound blessing not only for Zanskar but for the entire district. He expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting that receiving the blessings of His Holiness was one of the greatest achievements of his life.

Reaffirming his commitment to inclusive development, the CEC emphasized that all subdivisions of Kargil, including Zanskar, have been provided equal opportunities. He underlined the significant progress witnessed in Zanskar under his tenure, acknowledging the dedicated efforts of Executive Councillor Er. Phunchok Tashi, who has worked tirelessly for the region for the past 17 years.

The CEC also said that sufficient funds have been realeased on emergency basis for minor developmental works at Photang Gompa, during the visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama a few months back. He assured that Kargil will continue to stand firmly with Zanskar, even as the region aspires for separate district status.

Addressing the festival, MP Ladakh Hanifa Jaan described the event as a milestone in the region’s cultural and developmental journey. He stressed the importance of preparing a structured calendar of events in consultation with all stakeholders, with promotional campaigns beginning at least six months in advance to ensure greater participation and global outreach.

The MP further highlighted the vast potential of Kargil, particularly in the fields of adventure and eco-tourism. He called for the formulation of a dedicated tourism policy specific to Kargil, which would not only strengthen the local economy but also position the region as a premier international destination for culture, spirituality, and adventure tourism. The event was jointly organised by Tourism and Culture Depertment with the support of District Administration and LAHDC Kargil.
