Zanskar, September 17, 2026: A strong message against substance abuse echoed through Sani, Zanskar, as the Social & Tribal Welfare Department organised a Padyatra from Sani Lake to the Community Hall under the Union Territory-wide Drug Awareness Campaign.

The initiative, being conducted as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, aims to strengthen public awareness and collective action towards making Ladakh a Drug-Free UT.

The Padyatra saw enthusiastic participation from the BDO Zanskar, Tehsildar Zanskar, Tourism Officer, Principal of Higher Secondary School Padum and Numberdar of Sani, along with officials from various departments.

Students and villagers from Sani and neighbouring areas also joined the march in large numbers, turning the event into a strong community-led message against drug abuse.

Alongside the awareness march, a cleanliness drive was conducted at Sani Lake and adjoining areas, linking the message of a healthy society with environmental responsibility.

Participants carried placards, banners and positive anti-drug slogans, reinforcing the vision of a healthier and drug-free Ladakh.

At the conclusion, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Ghulam Rasool thanked the participating officials, students, villagers and dignitaries for their enthusiastic support.

The programme concluded with a collective resolve to prevent substance abuse and strengthen community participation in building a healthier, cleaner and drug-free Ladakh.
