Leh, Mar 16: A delegation of ex-Servicemen from Leh and Kargil led by President, Ex-Servicemen League Ladakh Scouts UT Ladakh, Sonam Morup, called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, RK Mathur, at Raj Niwas today.
The delegation raised issues related to ex-servicemen from Leh and Kargil, including the pending allotment of plots for ex-servicemen from Ladakh by Ex-Servicemen League Jammu, removal of encroachment and allotment of land earmarked at Haltal Command Area for ex-servicemen from Zanskar, establishing a Sainik Colony at Kargil, sanctioning of Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) Poly Clinic at Kargil, establishing a Defence Pension Disbursement Office/System for Pension Administration (Raksha) (SPARSH) Service Center at Kargil, re-employment of ex-servicemen in government jobs of Ladakh and relaxation in the physical test for ex-servicemen for the recruitment drive by Ladakh Police.
A delegation comprising Mohd Ilyas (MSc in Geology), Kunzang Dolma (BA Honours in Geography) and Tondup Dolker (Aerospace Engineer) raised the issue of promoting geo-tourism and the protection and preservation of geo-heritage sites of Ladakh such as the Shey Lake sediments, educating and raising awareness among tourists about the geological evolution of the Himalayas, establishment of Indian Geoparks Ladakh Chapter and job opportunities for students studying specialised subjects, etc.
LG Mathur stressed on the need for integrating geo-tourism with education and economy and raising awareness among students from Ladakh about the region’s geology.
