Leh: In a significant step towards reducing dependence on chemical fertilisers, the Ladakh administration is helping farmers to use organic farm manure.
In the year 2021-22, the Ladakh Cooperative Department procured quintals of manure and distributed the same among farmers on a high subsidy of 80%.
On Tuesday, Stanzin Chosphel, the Executive Councillor for Agriculture, flagged off three truckloads of farmyard manure (Rigpa) purchased by the Cooperative Dept Leh from Changthang region to Nubra sub-division.
The Agriculture Department of the Union Territory is reducing its procurement of chemical fertilizers as a step to make Ladakh an organic state.
