Leh, July 14: Chief Secretary of Ladakh Ashish Kundra visited Sham district on Tuesday to review the progress of the Sindhu Central University (SCU), inaugurate the Tia Model High School, and assess key development issues raised by local communities.
Kundra inspected the SCU transit campus at Zer-thang, reviewing classrooms, hostel facilities and academic infrastructure. He also held a virtual meeting with Vice Chancellor Dr. Chandrasekhar and other university officials to assess admissions, faculty strength and student enrolment. During the visit, he inaugurated the university’s Temperature Forecast System portal.
Reviewing the under-construction permanent SCU campus at Go-thang, the Chief Secretary expressed concern over delays despite contracts having already been awarded. He directed executing agencies to remove procedural hurdles, expedite construction and ensure coordinated action for timely completion of the project.
Later, Kundra inaugurated the newly established Tia Model High School, inspected its facilities and appreciated the Education Department’s efforts to strengthen school infrastructure. The school management sought CBSE affiliation, additional teachers, transport facilities, a DigiLab, improved internet connectivity and expansion of classrooms.
At a public interaction in Tia village, residents submitted memoranda seeking better road connectivity, tourism promotion, healthcare facilities, flood protection works, digital connectivity and infrastructure for the local nunnery. They also highlighted preparations for the anticipated visit of His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa and sought government support for heritage tourism.
Addressing the gathering, Kundra said the newly created administrative units would improve governance and bring public services closer to the people. He assured residents that their concerns would be addressed and directed departments to resolve pending infrastructure issues.
Highlighting the tourism potential of Tia and the Sham region, the Chief Secretary encouraged local youth to explore opportunities in homestays, heritage tourism, trekking and other community-based ventures, assuring full administrative support for sustainable economic development.
