Leh: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, RK Mathur, visited the Government Higher Secondary School at Silmoo during his three-day visit to Kargil. Chairperson, LAHDC Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan; Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Santosh Sukhdeve accompanied LG Mathur during the visit.
LG Mathur visited the Atal Tinkering Lab, the Hospitality Lab, Science Laboratory, library and interacted with the students of the school. The students also displayed their science projects and culinary skills. Principal in-charge Nawang Sherap briefed about various activities being conducted at the school. He informed about the academic success of the school.
LG Mathur called the students as fortunate for getting the opportunity to study in a school with good infrastructure and facilities and said the school is among the best in Ladakh and probably in the country. He stated that the Govt Higher Secondary School at Silmoo is one of the only six schools in Ladakh to have Atal Tinkering Lab facility. He advised the students to focus on academics and extra-curricular activities to develop their personalities. He further advised the students to make the most of the facilities available at the school for their bright future.
Chairman, LAHDC Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan shared the improvement in the academic performance of the school. He thanked the community for their contribution in the success of the school.
The school staff requested for the early functioning of the hostel and sanctioning of quarter for them.
Delegations from Silmoo and Batalik raised several issues related to the development of their areas, viz. installation of solar-powered lift irrigation systems for irrigation purposes in Batalik; financial assistance to Fatimiya Women’s Cooperative Ltd for its smooth functioning, construction of a motorable tunnel for Humbuthing La-Batalik Road; sanctioning Actual Line of Control (ALC) status to Sharchey and villages adjacent to Silmoo Moza; sanctioning of separate block and block development officer at Batalik; construction of tunnel along with the motorable road to Sharchey; construction of the micro-hydel project at Silmoo, etc.
