GDC Nobra celebrates World Environment Day with theme ‘Only One Earth’

Leh: Government Degree College Nobra, Department of Environmental Sciences and College Student Council members organised a day long program to join the global campaign on ‘ONLY ONE EARTH’ on World Environment Day 2022.

A symposium was organised on the topic solid waste management, Global climate change and its impact, Impact of tourism on local Environment and Water harvesting techniques with special reference to Ladakh. Similarly, a quiz competition among the three houses on the topics pollution, Air Act, Water Act, Environment protection Act, Biodiversity, Act,Resources, Current Environmental issues and movements etc . and a poster making competition on the theme ‘Only one earth’ & ‘Biodiversity of Ladakh’ was also organised.

Assistant Professor, Environmental Science, Tsewang Lahmo presented the welcome speech. She highlighted the need to reset the balance with nature through transformative changes in how we eat, live, work and move around.

Principal, Dr Tsewang Motup, chief guest applauded the students for participating in the event. He emphasised on the role of each one of us in taking care of the blue planet and assured full support in organising such events in future. To encourage the participant cash prizes were distributed to the winner in each category.

In the symposium competition are Padma Dolma of 3rd semester bagged the first and was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 1500, second prize bagged by Razia Bano of 3rd semester and was awarded Rs 1200 and third position was a tie between Nazia Bano 1st semester and Kanez Fatima of 3rd semester and each got a cash prize of Rs 400. Similarly in the quiz competition Khardongla house was the winner and awarded a cash prize of Rs 3000. In the poster making competition the first prize bagged by Sushmita Roka of 5th semester and awarded a cash prize of Rs 1500, second prize bagged by Stanzin Standin of 1st semester and was awarded a cash prize of Rs 1200 and third prize won by Assiya Bano of 1st semester and was awarded a cash prize of Rs 800.

Vote of thanks was presented by Bilques Bano, President College Student Council.
