Leh: In a bid to ensure safe and fair trading practices, a surprise market inspection in Khaltse has led to fines totaling ₹22,300 for multiple violations.
The two-day drive, conducted on July 30 and 31 on the directions of SDM Khaltse Mohd Sharif, targeted general stores, hotels, restaurants, vegetable vendors, and poultry sellers.
Led by Naib Tehsildar Asgar Ali, the team included the Tehsil Supply Officer, SHO Khaltse, and officials from the FCS&CA Department and local police.
During the raid, expired food items were found on shelves, domestic LPG cylinders were being used in hotels and restaurants, and several shops failed to meet hygiene and documentation requirements. Expired goods were destroyed on the spot.
Authorities have warned traders and hoteliers to follow safety and hygiene norms strictly to avoid action in future inspections.
