Leh, September 19, 2026: The Prison Department, UT Ladakh, in collaboration with Fairgun Foundation NGO, organised a two-day anti-drug awareness programme at the Multipurpose Hall of District Jail Leh under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
Students and teachers from Government Higher Secondary School Boys, Leh; Government Higher Secondary School Girls, Leh; Lamdon School; and Ladakh Public School participated in the programme, which focused on sensitising young people about the dangers and consequences of substance abuse.
A key feature of the programme was the participation of inmates of District Jail Leh, who shared their personal experiences and spoke about the damaging impact of drug abuse on their lives. The inmates also presented nataks depicting the adverse consequences of drug addiction and conveying a strong message on the importance of staying away from drugs.
The initiative sought to provide students with a direct and practical understanding of the risks associated with substance abuse and encourage them to become active participants in creating a healthy and drug-free society.
Addressing the gathering, the Senior Superintendent of Prisons, UT Ladakh, highlighted the serious physical, mental and social consequences associated with drug abuse. The SSP stressed that tackling substance abuse requires sustained and collective efforts involving government departments, educational institutions, NGOs, students, families and the wider community.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment towards strengthening drug-awareness and prevention initiatives and supporting the vision of a Nasha Mukt Ladakh.
