DDAC Leh Discharges First Recovering Individual, Marks Key Milestone

The District De-addiction Centre, Leh (DDAC) achieved a significant milestone with the successful discharge of its first recovering individual, underscoring the sustained commitment of the District Administration towards combating substance dependence through structured treatment, counselling, and rehabilitation services.
The programme was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Ghulam Mohd (JKAS); DySP (HQ), Leh, Rishab Shukla, IPS; District Social and Tribal Welfare Officer, Leh, Mohd Safdar Bhat (JKAS); Consultant Psychiatrist Dr. Padma Angmo; the LBA Youth Wing Advisor; officials of DDAC Leh; and the parent of the recovering individual.
Currently, six male recovering individuals are undergoing de-addiction treatment and rehabilitation at the Centre. The discharged individual, who had been admitted for the past one month, successfully completed the prescribed medical treatment, psychiatric care, counselling sessions, and behavioural rehabilitation programme under professional supervision on February 26, 2026.
Officials informed that the individual showed marked improvement through continuous psychiatric support, therapeutic counselling, and structured rehabilitation activities. They emphasized that recovery from substance dependence is achievable through timely medical intervention, professional guidance, and active family support.
Speaking on the occasion, the Additional Deputy Commissioner Leh reaffirmed the Administration’s commitment to extending post-discharge support. He stated that upcoming measures would focus on livelihood assistance, skill development programmes, and facilitation for self-employment and small business initiatives to help recovering individuals reintegrate into society with dignity and financial stability.
The LBA Youth Wing Advisor appreciated the coordinated efforts of the District Administration and healthcare professionals in fostering a supportive recovery environment. Stressing the role of youth engagement and preventive awareness, the Advisor assured cooperation in organizing community outreach and awareness campaigns to curb substance abuse among young people.
The District Administration reiterated that sustained recovery remains a priority and highlighted continued support measures including regular follow-up, counselling, family guidance, and community reintegration planning. Authorities further informed that awareness drives in schools and communities, along with strengthened inter-departmental coordination, are being intensified to prevent substance abuse and promote long-term social rehabilitation.
The District De-addiction Centre, Leh continues to function as a dedicated facility providing comprehensive medical care, psychological counselling, and rehabilitation services, reaffirming the Administration’s resolve to build a healthy and drug-free society.
